Weekday Three-Stage Life: A Programmer's Sharing of Life Planning and Inner Journey in a Big Tech Company for Three Years

Since I started working, I have often thought about the following questions:

  • How much longer until retirement? Can I retire tomorrow?
  • When will the Earth explode?
  • When can I quit and become rich?
  • Do I really need this job?

This made me realize that work is not everything. Work is essentially a transaction. Someone hires you to fulfill their dreams, and the boss exchanges money for your efforts during work hours. This also means that you need to separate yourself from work outside of working hours. Otherwise, you would be at a loss.

I suggest dividing your weekdays into three parts: before work, work, and after work. I recommend doing things you enjoy and are interested in during these times, and I do not recommend trying to make money (unless making money is your hobby). Because during the day, you are already selling your labor for money, and at night, you should focus on yourself. It's also important to develop hobbies first. Doing things you love gives you a sense of life. While doing these things, you can also see if there are opportunities to turn them into side businesses.

In terms of practical actions, the key to breaking free from the "work hell" is finding a sense of reality. What is a sense of reality? It means that when you look back on your past, you can remember activities that make you feel like the day was not wasted. When you come back from work, the first thing you should do is take a shower! This can help you relieve stress and relax your body and mind. I suggest finding something you enjoy so that work becomes just a small part of your workday. The purpose of waking up early is to create more time and have enough time to do things you love. Waking up early can also make you clear-headed, calm, and energetic.

How do big companies plan and manage? They have goal and path planning, review, and adjustment. They review their progress at regular intervals to confirm the completion of goals and ensure they are on the right track. My current life plan is to only focus on one core task each day. Completing this task means that the day is fulfilled. We are living individuals, and work is just a process of realizing our own lives, not the end result. Don't let work numb you and lose yourself.
